Stogie

As part of my Type 2 class with Eunsun Lee at Pratt Institute, I had to choose one typeface and design a book using that about any appropriate subject of my choice. I chose Bodoni and Cigars. Bodoni, like Cigars, has a modern yet timeless quality to it, so they complement each other wonderfully. As this was my first attempt at designing a book, I learned a lot about the flow of a book, curating all the individual elements, and putting them all together in a cohesive manner. I did extensive research on the topic and edited and organized the content of the book. I photographed and edited all the photos myself. We also had to make a small scale and a large scale object to go along with our book, so in addition to the book, I designed a cigar band, a matchbox, a poster, and a cigar case that perfectly fit all of the other objects.

For the small scale, I chose to design a cigar band and a matchbox, and for the large scale, I engraved a box with the logo, and made a poster which showed an infographic of cigar shapes and sizes. The poster folds up and fits in the box right behind the book which also was made to fit perfectly in the box.
